So a couple of my friends are pregnant and I thought I could inspire them with some maternity clothing that is adorable.
I started graduate school this semester and was inspired to have a mini class of my own. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Fashion 101. LESSON 3!
Fashion Education 101: Dresses
It is the dress that truly belongs to the female wardrobe. It is the one article of clothing we don’t have to share with men. It is as old as time but has never let us down. Dresses come in all shapes and sizes just like women do. We have dresses for religious’ affairs, prom, competition, work, celebrations and for just laying in the sun.
I know I have left some out but I feel that these choices are very popular or unique enough to know.
1. A line
2. Asymmetrical aka One Shoulder
4. Bubble dress
Not only a great movie but the dress the friend of the bride’s wears. Here is mine. I am wearing it for Amber’s wedding.
6. Coat dress aka Shirtwaist
Think of the movie Under the Tuscan Sun. This dress is retro but classy.
7. Cocktail Dresses
These are dresses suitable for semi-formals, black tie events and cocktail parties. Christian Dior was the first to use this term. Cocktail dresses fall under the evening dress category. They can be long but are usually short.
8. Drop waist aka low waist
9. Empire waist dress
Empire waist dresses are easily recognized by the seam ending right below the breasts. It is very popular in prom and wedding dresses.
10. Evening/Formal dress
My grandma said what makes an evening dress is length. If a dress is not long, it is not evening. I hold to the same belief.
11. Flapper dress
12. High waist
13. Jumper dress
14. Kaftan dress
A traditional Japanese garment worn by men and women. However recently we have thought they make great robes and fabulous hang around wear.
The Little Black Dress comes in every shape, size, style and cut. But every woman needs one because they’re effortless sexy.
17. Mini dress
We have mini skirts so naturally we have to have mini dresses. These are the dresses that are so tight, hot and little. Some may call them the club dress.
18. Maxi dress
Dresses that are awesome! They are floor length but casual.
19. Mermaid dress
Dresses that the end of them look like Mermaid fins.
20. Pencil dress
Same principle as a pencil skirt. To be tight and curve hugging, and going straight down.
21. Princess dress aka Ball Gown
This is what I call the poof dress. It poofs out. 🙂
22. Peplum dress
23. Pleated dress
The detail at the bottom of the dress is pleated. Notice they are different from Tiered dresses.
24. Sweater dress
I love this look. SO cozy.
Short in the front, long in the back. It is the mullets of dresses. : >
28. Tutu dress
29. Tent dress
30. Tiered dress
Note this detail goes horizontal while Pleated goes vertical.
32. Wedding dress
I think the most important dress of a woman’s life. 🙂
33. Wrap dress
Here is another helpful picture. 🙂
