My mom told me I look like my Mams (grandma who passed away) in this picture.

This is a vintage purse from my grandpa’s new wife, Joyce. She gave it to me. Such a sweetie.

One can never go wrong with boots.

28 Day Challenge (Day 1)

So on June 11, 2012 I started the 28 day challenge. Then I tried to start the Autumn version last fall. In this challenge I took a pic of myself (almost) everyday. Then I would analyze my style and clothes choice afterwards. My conclusion I am NOT a good summer dresser. So because I love fall fashion way more and the summer version of this challenge was a fail, I am doing it again; I have a reliable source of internet now! I am starting today! There are 28 days of February how wonderful!

Fashion Education 101: Shoes

I started graduate school this semester and was inspired to have a mini class of my own. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Fashion 101. Our first lesson, shoes.

Fashion Education 101: Shoes

Each year shoe sales in the fashion industry make $25 billion per year! So I decided there was just no better way to start our class.

“It’s really hard to walk in a single woman’s shoes — that’s why you sometimes need really special shoes!” – (Carrie) Sex and The City

“I did not have three thousand pairs of shoes. I had one thousand and sixty.” – Imelda Marcos

“Cinderella is proof that a new pair of shoes can change your life”

It is easy for some to scoff at couture shoes. Some people believe it’s just feet. Who cares? As long as they are covered. Shoes started out as protection; some are still i.e. construction workers. But now, shoes are another way to express oneself. They can tell us about a person’s income status, sub-culture, career and style. A great example of this is the shoe scene in Breakfast Club where all the students are dancing. Instantly each person can be recognized.

Shoes are to an outfit what cherries are to sundaes; presentation and completion.

I feel powerful and feminine when I wear my heels. I enjoy the feeling of completing my outfit once my shoes are on. I like the clicks my heels make when I walk on hard surfaces. It’s the little things in life!

So here is a compilation of shoes I think are noteworthy! Some are brands while others are types but I think the brands, I’ve included, have made an impact.

1. Ankle straps

Heels with straps on the ankle. : p

2. Ankle Boots

Image

There is a difference between ankle boots and booties. Ankle boots end 1 to 4 inches above your ankle, where as booties (below) end right at the ankle.

3. Booties

4. Boots

There are tons of types of boots!

5. Cowboy boots

Image

6. Converse

There are high tops and low tops. Below is low top.

Image

7. Crocs

I don’t like these shoes but they have made their dent in the world.

Image

8. Clogs

I have noticed there are 3 shoes that keep popping up for Clogs. I am still learning the nitty gritty between them all but there are the flat one, heeled ones and the backless flat ones.

9. D’Orsay

10. Doc Martens

Doc Martens are in the flat boots family. : )

11. Flats

12. Flip flops

Use to be called thongs!

Image

13. Gladiator sandals

Image

14. High heels

Shoes that have heels on it! I know no one knew until I told them. I feel accomplished!

Image

15. Heel less

Image

16. Kitten heels

Image

17. Lobster claws

I know they aren’t popular but they are unique enough to remember their name.

Image

18. Mary Janes

Mary Janes have one strap that go across the foot.

Image

19. Moccasins

Moccasins can be flat, as below, and in boot form.

Image

20. Mules

I have read different meanings for Mules but a source I find reliable describes them as below. Still learning!

Image

21. Oxfords

These started out as a man’s shoe but we now have incorporated into our feminine wear. Oxfords can be flat and as heels.

These are Saddle Oxfords.

Image

22. Peep toe

Shoes when toes show!

Image

23. Rain boots aka Wellington boots

Image

24. Riding boots

Image

25. Sandals

I feel this is the most broad of all shoes. Flip flops, gladiators, heels, etc. can be classified as a sandal. TOO many of them!

Image

26. Slingbacks

Slingbacks are shoes with the back that you slip on.

Image

27. T Straps

This one is hard, I know! But these are shoes that the strap is shaped as a T.

Image

28. Toms

I love these shoes!

Image

29. Uggs

Image

30. Wedges

Wedges are heels that connect from the toe to the heel.

Shoes can start getting REALLY descriptive such as a T-Strap Peep Toe Kitten Heel. Here are some more helping charts.
